July was a busy month for our Embrace families. We started each of our monthly meetings by interviewing the families about a number of things. We wanted to know how their home gardens were doing, whether they had any issues with their water filters and how their eco stoves were working for those that have one. Knowing this information helps us to move forward on how best to do special projects with the families. July is one of the months that we distribute the replacement piece that needs to changed out in their water filters. Depending on when they come into the program; some families receive this replacement piece in July and some in December. The health talk was to reinforce the importance of using their filters properly and taking the proper steps to maintain them. A devotional was shared from James 1:19. The children were excited to receive their new shoes; the culmination of our MYB (Middle of the Year Blessing)! Every child left with new shoes and 3 pairs of socks. Thank you sponsors for making this possible for every child! Another special project that was covered this month was handing out an avocado tree to each family along with 2 plantain root bulbs to plant. I like doing projects that involve the family’s participation and we encourage them to be “diligent now” in the care of the trees to have a “future benefit” for their family’s food needs.
