July was a full month of activities. We weighed and measured each child for their level of nutrition to monitor the status of each child. Many of our families received their replacement piece for their water filters and the new families received their full filter to begin to use from our recent registrants. These filters were made possible from some recent memorial funds that the ministry received. A talk was given on the importance of using only filtered water for their families and reminders on how to properly do the maintenance on their filters. Our families receive the piece that needs annual changing in either July or December but July is the biggest distribution. There was a devotional shared from. Our families started to receive 20 lbs. of corn in the food bags this month. These are the “lean months” when people’s crops have run out from their last harvest and they are waiting for their new harvest. It was complicated further this year because the rainy season was very late in beginning; thus pushing out the harvest this year later than usual. Corn is the main staple for the people, to have their tortillas and we supplement their food bags for the months of July, August and September.
July is our MYB (Middle of the Year Blessing). Sponsors were given the opportunity to provide a pair of new shoes for their sponsored children. Due to the generosity of many that sent something “extra”; we were able to give every child new shoes! This included our newly registered children as well as children whose sponsors did not participate in this outreach. The girls could choose between sandals, school shoes or tennis shoes and the boys had the options of tennis shoes, school shoes and boots (in either low or high). Each child also received 3 pairs of socks. It was fun to watch the excitement of the children as they received their new shoes.

We still have a few sponsors that have not adapted to the new 2024 pricing for sponsorship and have tried to juggle things as best as we can but it is going to result in a few children losing their sponsors unless we can get sponsors on track. The families are enjoying another change that began in January; the fact that every family is receiving transportation funds to assist them on their trip home. This is a huge blessing to the families as they have 40-50 lbs. of food to carry home and without the transportation funds, it could mean hours of walking!
